TelstraClear
FAQs

Will I have to change numbers to join TelstraClear, or when I switch from CDMA to GSM?

No you won’t have to change your number. Number portability means you can change your mobile network and/or provider without changing your number.

What is your coverage like?

The GSM/3G network has a network coverage of 97% of the NZ population. Check the coverage in your area here.

Can I use an XT handset on the GSM/3G network?

Yes you can, but please be aware that when you go outside of "3G Broadband" areas, which are mainly outside the main metro areas in NZ, your handset will only connect to the 2G network as your handset runs on slightly different frequencies than our network. This will only effect mobile data/internet usage though. You will still be able to make call and send texts as normal.

Can I use a CDMA handset on the new GSM/3G service ?

No. Unfortunately CDMA handsets are not compatible. Please talk to our team about a new GSM/3G handset.

Can I use global roaming?

Please refer to our Roaming information pages.

If I am already a TelstraClear CDMA mobile customer, can I change to the new GSM/3G service?

Yes. Please call our Customer Care team to find out more information.

Can I stay on CDMA?

Yes, until the CDMA network is de-commissioned by Telecom. Telecom has publicly committed to run and support a CDMA/EVDO network until 2012, so existing customers can continue to use the CDMA service until the network is closed at which time they will need to change to the new GSM/3G mobile service.
