Configuring iPassConnect In Windows

Information on configuring your iPassConnect software can be found in the relevant user guide. To access the guide, click here

For your convenience, we have listed some of the common configuration settings below.

E-mail

In order to use your usual e-mail client (e.g. Outlook Express, Windows Mail) to access your e-mail while overseas you'll need to have Mail+ enabled on your Clearnet account.

This can be done through TelstraClear self-service portal at the following link.

Updating The iPassConnnect Phonebook

Launch the iPassConnect software, click on Settings, select Update iPassConnect and then click on Phonebook.

Dial Properties

The Dial Properties section allows you to configure information for special prefixes, call waiting, dial tones and location. If using Wireless or Wired Broadband as your access method, ignore these instructions.

Select a number from the Phonebook and click on Dial Properties.

To access outside line dial is used when you are in a locations such as hotels and businesses where a number must be dialled before being able to make a phone call to an outside line e.g. from some businesses you must dial 1 and wait for a dial tone before being able to call a phone number.

Call waiting services create an audible beeping noise on the line during a conversation to alert the caller than another call is coming through. If this happens during an internet session, the computer may drop the connection. To disable this, select a disabling prefix from the dropdown list.

There are two different types of dialling systems used in the world:

  • Tone
  • Pulse

Tone is the system used in New Zealand and any country that uses touch tone phones. Pulse is the older system which, instead of audible tones, uses a series of clicks when dialling. You may need to consult someone in the country you’re in to find out which system is in use. Once known, select the appropriate dialling system using the Dial using dropdown list.

Bookmarks

NOTE: Bookmarks can become obsolete when the phonebook is updated. If you try to connect to an old bookmark, that number might not be in existence any more - check your current phonebook to see if the number is listed as a valid access point.

To create a bookmark, click on the Bookmarks menu and select Add Bookmark.

To connect using a bookmark, click on the Bookmarks menu and select the bookmark by clicking on it.

To modify or delete a bookmark, click on the Bookmarks menu and select Edit Bookmark. Select the bookmark from the list that appears and click on Modify or Delete as required.

Calling Cards

Some locations may require the use of a calling card to access the internet.

To access the calling card functionality; after selecting the access point, click on Dial Properties. Put a tick in the Use Calling Card checkbox and click on Calling Card.

Using iPassConnect With Microsoft Windows

Before using these instructions, ensure you have:

  1. Installed the latest version of iPassConnect available from the TelstraClear website
  2. Updated the iPassConnect phone book

To update the iPassConnect phone book; launch the iPassConnect software, click on Settings, select Update iPassConnect and then click on Phonebook.

Getting Started

If using broadband, ensure that you locate a known iPass access point. A list of access points can be found by navigating to the iPass website and using the accessing the access point locator tool at the top of the screen.

  1. If using Wired Broadband as your access method, ensure you plug your laptop (or other internet device) directly into the access point using an Ethernet cable.
  2. If using Wireless Broadband, ensure your wireless adaptor is enabled.
  3. If using Modem (dial up), ensure your computer is connected to a phone line.

Turn on your laptop and launch the iPassConnect software from your desktop.

How to Connect

If you’re using Wired or Wireless Broadband as your access method, iPass should automatically detect that a network is available if you’re near a Wi-Fi hotspot or physically connected to a Wired Broadband access point.

If using a dial up modem, you will need to select the appropriate location details.

To choose an access point, highlight this by clicking this in the list of available networks or the phone book.

Click on Connect. When prompted enter your Clearnet username and password and click OK.

Once a successful connection has been established, the red iPassConnect icon in the system tray on the bottom right hand corner of your screen will be animated.
