Publishing Your Web Pages
Publishing is the process of uploading, or sending, your web pages to the TelstraClear Web servers to be made available for the rest of the internet world to see.

When publishing you will use the File Transfer Protocol. FTP is just a way of sending files (your web pages are just a type of file) across the Internet from one computer to another.

Once your web pages are received by TelstraClear they will be accessible to anyone with a connection to the internet.

You can use almost any FTP programme to upload your web pages. For those that aren't sure which one to use, two FTP programmes that help make publishing your pages easier are "CuteFTP" for Windows or "Fetch" for the Apple Mac.

Please note that this software is Shareware. This generally means you may use it free of charge for a short time to evaluate it's usefulness. If you decide to keep using the software after this time you must pay the registration fee to the software's author. Each programme has information about registration included.

Configuring & Publishing with CuteFTP (for Windows)

The following steps assume you have downloaded the programme and installed it successfully.
  1. Start CuteFTP by double clicking on it's icon.

  2. The FTP Site Manager screen should appear. In the Window on the left hand side, click on the folder labelled 'Personal FTP Sites'.

Click on the 'Add site' button.

In the 'Site Label' box type 'Web Site' (or the name of your web site, anything to identify your site).

In the 'Initial Remote Directory' box type '/doc/'

In the 'Host Address' box type the URL of your site as you set it up. For example if you have set up your web site under the domain name of shoerax.co.nz you would put 'www.shoerax.co.nz' as the 'Host Address'. This will determine which web site your pages get uploaded to.

In the 'User ID' and 'Password' boxes, enter the clear.net user id and password of one of the Webmaster accounts you have set up.

Note: If you did not set up a Webmaster when you created your web site, you will have to go and create one now.

Leave the other settings as they are.

Click on the 'Ok' button to save your changes.

If you have multiple web sites with clear.net, you may want to repeat the above steps for each web site you will be publishing to. You can bring up the 'Site Manager' at any time from the 'FTP' menu.

  3. From the 'FTP' menu, select 'Settings' then 'Options... On the 'General' tab, fill in your e-mail address in the box labelled 'Mail Address. All the other settings can be left at their defaults.

Click on the 'Ok' button to save your changes.
