In-flight Services
What are In-Flight services?
In-Flight services allow TelstraClear GSM mobile customers to use their mobile devices during selected domestic and international flights.
How does it work?
In-Flight services are satellite based. When you make/receive calls, SMS or start a data session, a small cell site on the plane relays this to a satellite. The satellite then transmits the information to a base station on the ground which communicates with the mobile network infrastructure and establishes your call, SMS or data session to the mobile, landline or web server you’re trying to contact.

Will all mobile services be available to me?
You’ll be able to make/receive calls, send/receive SMS and use data services normally but unable to retrieve voice mail.
Can I use the service on any flight with any airline?
Currently there are a limited number of airlines that offer the In-Flight service:
These airlines will also only offer the service on specific flights. To find out whether your flight has the In-Flight service available you’ll need to contact the airline. TelstraClear won’t be able to provide you with any information about this. Also, during some flights the airline may disable the service to reduce cabin noise.
What will it cost me to use?
There is no cost to receive an SMS however costs of other services depend on the airline used. All airlines listed except Emirates use the On-Air pricing shown in the table below. Emirates uses the Aeromobile pricing.
