The future today - live hologram shows New Zealand business what's possible
17 September, 2008
Presentations to an audience of more than 500 in Auckland were made via the hologram by Telstra CEO, Sol Trujillo, Australia’s leading entertainment star Rove McManus and Kiwi singer Che Fu.
The presentations were the first time New Zealanders have seen the hologram and the first time it has been transmitted trans Tasman.
TelstraClear Chief Executive Allan Freeth said it was made possible by the power of the company’s Next IP Network.
“It demonstrates the capability and capacity of our Next IP network and how business can be transformed in terms of efficiency and productivity,” Dr Freeth said. “TelstraClear’s Next IP network is an enabler. It can turn what many think of as science fiction into reality. Today, seeing was believing.”
“It opens a new frontier for businesses and a more productive way of using technology to bring the world to you. To achieve better outcomes and a better experience from whatever medium you choose to use.”
TelstraClear’s Next IP network extends from Whangarei to Invercargill. It also connects across the Tasman to Telstra’s Next IP global network that includes 1100 points of presence in 35 countries.
TelstraClear continues to invest in its Next IP network. By December it will be able to handle 125,000 simultaneous phone calls. Within five years it will be capable of handling 1.2 million simultaneous calls.
Already, 38 of Telstra’s top 50 customers are served in New Zealand via the Next IP Network.
And many of New Zealand’s top companies have shown their confidence in TelstraClear including five of the country’s leading banks, nine key insurance companies and three of the four largest retail department store chains.
“And TelstraClear is leading the way in New Zealand with the types of solutions that are available over Next IP that can change the way companies do business,” Dr Freeth said.
Recently TelstraClear released IP Gateway, part of a suite of telephony products it developed and the company was the first in New Zealand to buy Telepresence which it will utilise as a managed service.
